Supply Chain Management is a critical component of the total business spectrum and contributes substantially to the profitability and financial well-being of any organisation. Today's global market place is highly competitive and many organisations are experiencing pressure to create and deliver value to customers.
The shortage of information and Supply Chain skills as well as efforts to reduce costs and enhance service delivery to customers are common challenges faced by many companies in South Africa. The continued shortage of Supply Chain skills indicates a possible crisis situation for Supply Chains, especially in a climate where companies need to be able to respond to threats and opportunities in the local and global marketplace. Supply Chain personnel need to be capable of fulfilling their company's Supply Chain Strategy and Vision at an operational level.
