THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING AND EDUCATION

Quote: Logistics News, The glass supply chain - going beyond visibility, January/February 2010

"...Only supply chains that are fully visible, collaborative, agile, adaptable and aligned provide companies with sustainable competitive advantage and excellence in customer service.  The more accurate and timely the flow of information, the faster the response in managing disruptions can be.  Education and training must be combined with understanding, co-ordination, and co-operation across the supply chain to leverage the combined strength of your most valuable assets...your people and the information they depend on."

ADDRESS THE SUPPLY CHAIN SKILLS SHORTAGE AT AN OPERATIONAL LEVEL

Today’s global market place is highly competitive and many organisations are experiencing pressure to create and deliver value to customers.  The shortage of information and supply chain skills as well as efforts to reduce costs and enhance service to customers are common challenges faced by many companies in South Africa.

The continued shortage of supply chain skills in South Africa indicates a possible crisis situation for supply chains especially in a climate where companies need to be able to respond to threats and opportunities in the local and global market place.  Stores and warehouse staff need to be capable of fulfilling their company’s Supply Chain Strategy and Vision at an operational level.

The government has embarked on an exciting journey for skills development in South Africa and a number of initiatives have highlighted the need for the identification and acquisition of scarce and critical skills.

The Centre for Logistics Excellence is an established education provider and has been providing programmes in warehousing and supply chain management for a number of years.  Our learning programmes will assist in the training and education of people within the stores and warehouse environment thereby facilitating the process of achieving peak operational performance.
