SAPICS focuses on building operations management excellence in individuals and enterprises through their education and training, local recognised certificates, comprehensive resources and a country-wide network of accomplished industry professionals. These courses are recognised in the supply chain community.

Learnerships

Our learnerships are structured learning programmes where the learner spends a specific amount of time learning theory (in a classroom), and even more time learning the practical side of the theory (skills) in the workplace. Learnerships don’t only equip learners with technical and work-specific skills, but also with life skills. Participating and being found competent upon completion of a learnership, will result in learners achieving a registered NQF qualification.

Workshops (short courses)

Our workshops are non-credit bearing short courses for which no credits are awarded in relation to unit standards.  It can be presented at your premises as face-to-face learning to groups of 12 – 20 learners. The short courses can also be presented as virtual, public or organisational specific courses.

The APICS Principles of Operations Management program has five customizable courses that are classroom-based and instructor-led for individuals new to materials and operations management.

If the learner packs stock using any form of machinery such as a forklift/conveyer belt, crane etc then he/she must meet the requirement for licensing before embarking on this unit standard.

What is the purpose of this course?

The purpose of the qualification is to build the knowledge and skills required by employees in junior management who have had schooling below NQF level 3. It is intended to empower learners to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values required to operate confidently as junior managers in the South African community and to respond to the challenges of the economic environment and changing world of work.

As a qualification that covers management, it provides a framework for learners to develop competencies that will enable them to become competent junior managers. It introduces some theoretical concepts, requires the application of a limited base of knowledge and requires a well-developed range of skills that will enable learners to be informed workers in their chosen industry. It provides a balanced learning experience that allows flexible access to further education, lifelong learning, higher education and to productive employment in a range of occupational contexts. The National Certificate in Management: Level 3 is intended for personnel already employed and other learners who intend to follow a career in management. Practical competence is within several contexts some of which may be non-routine. The focus is on comparison, choice, interpretation, and application of knowledge.

What is the purpose of this workshop?

This workshop introduces time management that will enable learners to be efficient team leaders or junior managers in a business workplace. It is intended for managers of small businesses and junior managers of business units in larger organisations. The term business unit in this workshop implies a small business, cost centre, section, or department.

Who can benefit from attending?

Junior managers include, but are not limited to team leaders, supervisors, first line managers and section heads. The position is term is used to describe the first level of management in an organisation at which an employee has other employees reporting to him/her.

What are the outcomes?

At the end of the workshop learners will be able to:

  • Create, use, and maintain a task list
  • Understand the value of using and maintaining a personal task list in terms of own organisation.
  • Identify steps or stages in a process in tasks assigned to the group.
  • Know the procedures required for the completion of assigned tasks and explain with reference to the time necessary for the completion of tasks and the consequences of missed deadlines.
  • Record information and documentation required on the task list and flagged for further action
  • Capture additional information received electronically or processed manually
  • Draft an action plan to ensure that assigned tasks are completed timeously.
  • Add new tasks to the task list when necessary and reprioritise outstanding work to ensure deadlines are met timeously.
  • Report completed tasks to the appropriate authority and check off the task list.
  • Use and maintain a diary
  • Understand the purpose of keeping a personal diary, a team diary and an organisation diary system in context of self and team management tools.
  • Record relevant information in the diary electronically or manually.
  • Use diary entries to create and adapt action plans.
  • Prioritise tasks.
  • Identify tasks in order to create a task list.
  • Explain the criteria for prioritising tasks for a specific business unit.
  • Sort and prioritise tasks according to type and required deadlines.
  • Schedule time needed to complete tasks to allow for specified deadlines
  • Identify resources required by the team or work unit.
  • Plan and follow a work schedule.
  • Name regular daily, weekly, and monthly activities and record a teamwork schedule.
  • Draw up a roster indicating the role of each team member to ensure that all the activities can be completed timeously.
  • Inform internal clients of the aspects of the work schedule that affect them.
  • Adjust the schedule when necessary to allow for unexpected interruptions
  • Monitor the work of team members to ensure timeframes can be met and to aid team members when necessary.
